This project focuses on the famous State-owned enterprise of North China Pharmaceutical Factory located in Shijiazhuang, Hebei, China, the only product of which is penicillin. I intend to reflect the social state in 1990s in China by showing its long time decline of this factory. The 1990s in China is in the social and economic transition. During that time the government intended to alleviate the pressure of social restructuring through the sacrifice made by massive number of workers laid off by state-owned enterprises as well as the privatization of the state-owned enterprises with long time decline. The underclass workers, working hardest but paid least, lost their jobs and suffered from the economic pressure. My project reflects their misfortune and helplessness, without discourse power, nowhere to express their pain, and unfairness toward this group of population under that social context.
