The theme of this project is about Gu Cheng, a controversial Chinese poet. Three poems of Gu Cheng’s, though none of them being his representative work, were chosen as the subject of my works as I found they could represent three key stages in Gu Cheng’s emotional life to some extent through my research of some resources. That en- abled me to have a further study of the reasons why Gu Cheng chose to kill his wife and then himself. I wish to mirror the innermost thoughts of people, helping the audience to reflect. Moreover, I wish to demonstrate what people were faced with at that age when the reform and opening-up of China commenced with a mass of new things confronting the curious and helpless people.
